Another month has gone by without a post... But it's been a productive month. I've edited another six chapters, and I'm very happy with how they look. I wrote another new scene, which I'm also excited about. I feel like that's happening a lot lately- I get struck by a good idea and then find a way to work it in. I know the book will benefit from these insertions, so although it's tough to get in the mindset of creating from scratch again, I'm enjoying it.
I've also thought of an alternate/expanded ending. It doesn't cut out what already happens, but rather, inserts another obstacle in the protagonist's path on his journey at the climax of the story. It'll be another chapter to write, but I think it'll turn out really great and make the ending that much more intense for the reader. At least, that's my hope. The second act of the story gets utterly insane, and I want to make sure the third act doesn't fall short by comparison. If you're not white-knuckling the book and flipping the pages in a manic state, I've underperformed. So I'll be rewriting the ending and making the characters suffer and overcome more because... That's what you, as the reader, want, right?
Also: New artwork coming soon! I'm working with a graphic designer on getting an image that captures the emotional core of the story and the world of Corbryn in all its splendor. It's a tall order, but there are some extremely talented folks out there, and one of them is going to help bring the story to life! Stay tuned.
Lastly, I need to provide some sort of public timeline to hold myself accountable.
I want to be querying by September, or at least actively researching my query options. That means that I need to be finished editing by the end of August, so four months. By the time my new scenes are inserted, I'll have 38 chapters, if my guesses are correct and the structure plays out well. I'm currently done with nine chapters, leaving me 29 in four months. This means I need to edit about 7.25 chapters per month, or just under two a week.
I'm calling it now, so you may subject me to public shame and humiliation if I don't get this done. Final edits DONE by 9/1/18.
Alright, I think that's everything for now. As always, thanks for keeping up with my work. Your support, silent or vocal, means a lot.
